Jerusalem: Israel has arrested one of the bearers of Al Jazeera Shireen Abu Akleh reporter, said the police on Thursday, but rejected his lawyer claim that the detention was associated with his role in the funeral.
In an attack that had triggered an international anger, Israeli police who used a stick beat several bearers of the bodies when they brought a journalist coffin out of the hospital in East Jerusalem which was colored by Israel.
Abu Akleh was shot dead during the attack of Israeli soldiers in the west bank last week.Palestine and TV network said Israeli troops killed him, while Israel said he might be killed by Palestinian shots or lost shots from Israeli sniper.A lawyer for Pallbearer Amro Abu Khudeir told AFP that his client had been arrested and asked his role in the cemetery.
According to the lawyer, Khaldoun Najm, Israel also claimed to have “secret files about membership (khudeir) from terrorist organizations”.”I think they will arrest more young men participating in the funeral,” Najm said. “For them, the subject of funeral and coffin is embarrassing.”The police refused the relationship between the funeral and arrest of Khudeir.
“We witnessed efforts to produce a conspiracy that was fundamentally incorrect,” said a statement. “The suspect was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation that was contrary to the accusation, it had nothing to do with his participation in the funeral procession.” Police justification for attacks at St. Hospital Joseph has varied.
They have quoted the need to label the “nationalistic” song and also say that “rioters” among mourners throw projectiles at officers.Israeli forces often crack down on Palestinian identity displays, including national flags, one of which is wrapped in Abu Akleh coffin. The police have vowed to investigate the controversial incident.
