High tension was witnessed during the ASEAN Minister’s meeting in the Capital City of Cambodia Phnom Penh when the top diplomat of the Chinese government Wang Yi walked out before the start of the gala dinner. This came in the middle of a tense relationship between Chinese visits and Taiwan Post Us House Nancy Pelosi to Taipei. Yi was seen leaving a vehicle from a place where Foreign Minister Jaisankar met with US Secretary Antony Blinken.
Wang Yi waved to the media when he entered the storage room for dinner and then walked out of the venue, without giving a reason, according to Journalist Reuters. Two witnesses who worked at the venue told the news agency that Wang Yi was seen leaving by vehicle. The dinner was attended by more than a dozen Minister of Foreign Affairs, Blinken, Yoshimasa Hayashi in Japan, and senior diplomats of the Association of the Nation -Southeast Asian nation (ASEAN).
Before dinner gala, Jaisankar said that India and the 10 ASEAN countries had “strong convergence” in Indo-Pacific, fighting the threat of terrorism and development in Ukraine and Myanmar. He further said that India and the Southeast Southeast Association of Asian countries (ASEAN) also had the same view on connectivity projects, dealing with Pandemi Covid-19 and problems related to Cyber security.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs made a comment after attending the meeting of the Indian-ASEAN Minister.
In another tweet, Jaisankar said he identified the digital domain, health, agriculture, education and green growth as an area that drove the partnership between the two parties. “Digital education, health, agriculture and green growth will encourage our partnerships. Blinken said the US and India were strong supporters of ASEAN centrality in Indo-Pacific, according to the US State Department. “Both of us are strong supporters of ASEAN centrality. Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is the Coordinator of the State for India in ASEAN. It is known that the dialogue of the Indian-ASEAN Foreign Minister focuses on overall developments in the Indo-Pacific region and ways to expand further relations with the background of geopolitical development, including crisis in Ukraine.
Foreign ministers also discussed the situation in the South China Sea, a region rich in resources that had witnessed the increase in Chinese muscles. It is known that the meeting also underlined the need to follow the principles of the United Nations Convention for Sea Law (UNCLOS) in the South China Sea area.
ASEAN is considered one of the most influential groupings in the region. India and several other countries, including the US, China, Japan and Australia, are their dialogue partners. The ASEAN-Indian dialogue relationship began with the formation of sectoral partnership in 1992. This graduated for full dialogue partnership in December 1995 and peak level partnerships in 2002.
The bond was appointed to the strategic partnership in 2012. ASEAN is the center of the East Act Indian policy and its vision for a broader Indo-Pacific. ASEAN consists of Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Malaysia and Myanmar. In June, India hosted the meeting of the ASEAN-Indian Foreign Minister specifically in New Delhi to mark the 30th anniversary of its relationship with grouping.
Developments in Sri Lanka and Myanmar are estimated at a meeting at Phnom Penh. Last month, Sri Lanka witnessed a massive political chaos after a mass protest that forced President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to escape the country. Veteran leader Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed as the new president of Sri Lanka in the midst of the hope of recovery from economic pressure.
